Dhaka – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court yesterday (Monday) ordered prison authorities to produce Oishee Rahman, sentenced to death for killing her parents, before it on April 10 to observe her mental status.A bench of the High Court comprising Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md. Jahangir Hossain passed the order after hearing on her jail appeal and death reference in the case.
Earlier, Oishee’s counsel claimed she was mentally unstable during the killing.
Deputy Attorney General Zahirul Haque, however, raised objection, saying she is all aware about the proceedings of the case and the concerned trial court convicted her, observing her mental position.
Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 of Dhaka on November 12, 2015, sentenced Oishee to death for killing her parents Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman in 2013. The case document says that the convict sedated her parents before knifing them to death.
The court had also sentenced her friend Mizanur Rahman Rony to two-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for giving her shelter, after she had committed the heinous crime.
On August 16, 2013, police recovered the decomposed bodies of Special Branch (SB) police Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman from their Chamelibagh residence in the capital. – Special Correspondent
