Shibir calls half-day hartal in Comilla for Thursday

Local unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir on Tuesday called a half-day hartal in the district for Thursday protesting the killing of one of its activists.Shibir city unit president Monir Ahmed made the hartal call after the namaz-e-janaza of Abdul Aziz held on the premises of a local madrasah in Chouddagram upazila headquarters in the afternoon.
He said they will also bring out processions in all the upazila headquarters of the district on Wednesday protesting the killing of the Shibir man and arrange doa mahil in its all offices and different mosques on Friday for him.
Abdul Aziz, 23, an activist of Feni Government College unit of Shibir and son of Ibrahim of Sonaicha village in the upazila, was beaten to death by some unidentified miscreants at Kulasa village on Monday night.
Police said a group of miscreants picked up Aziz from a mosque at Paduar Bazar and took him to Kulasa village on Monday night.
The goons equipped with lethal weapons swooped on Aziz and beat him indiscriminately.
Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the spot and informed police at about 8pm.
In a critical condition, Aziz was rushed to Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Comilla Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Aziz was buried at Sonaicha village on Tuesday.
ATM Masum, ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Alkora Union unit, claimed that Aziz was killed by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists. (Source: UNB)
