Five persons including a woman were wounded at Mitakhali in Mongla
under Bagerhat in a clash over a plot of a land on Sunday night. One
of the wounded has been sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital in a
critical condition. It is alleged by the victim that Police, not
taking the case against the miscreants, detained two persons from
among the victim’s supporter.
It is known from local sources and the allegation placed in Mongla
Thana that Hatem Sheikh, 48 and Obaydul Sheikh (25) of Mitakhali Union
of Mongla Upazila forcibly took possession of three khatas of land of
a day laborer named Rejaul Sheikh (42) by using political power.
Rejaul Sheikh submitted an application to the local Chairman Azahar
Gazi to solve the matter. Being informed of the facts, the chairman
ordered the defendants to return the land of Rejaul. Violating the
order of the chairman, Hatem Sheikh and his fellows became angry with
Rejaul, entered his house on Sunday night, looted some belongings and
beat Rahima Begum, Khodeja Begum, Mizan, Mohidul and Nasrin Begum
severely.
Among the wounded, the physical condition of Rahima deteriorated and
she had been sent to KMCH for treatment. When Rejaul and Mohidul went
to Mongla Thana for registering a case, SI Emdad Hossain, allegedly
did not take it and instead detained them for four hours, the victim
alleged.
Mongla Thana Police SI Emdad Hossain denied the complaint made against
him and said he seized the Mobile Phone of Rejaul. Speaking to Rejaul,
he told the newsmen that the alleged miscreants were occupying his
land forcibly under the shade of a local Juba Leage leader and for
this reason, Police refused to file a case against them. Though
allegation has placed against Obaydul at Mongla Thana, he rejected all
the allegation that raised against him.
