Govt sheltering rapists: Nagorik Oikya

Dhaka – The Nagorik Oikya on Friday accused the government of giving shelter to the rapists.
“The incidents of rape are taking place one after another due to a culture of lack of justice. People are being arrested if they protest the incidents,” alleged Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of the organisation.Speaking at a human chain programme in front of Jatiya Press Club, he said the death knell of the government is ringing.
“They (government) do not abide by High Court and Supreme Court,” he said.
He called upon the government to quit after holding an acceptable and participatory poll immediately.
The Nagorik Oikya organised the human chain protesting the recent anarchic situation across the country.
The incidents include raping students and repression in Bogra, damage of eyesight of Siddiqur Rahman in the attack of police and scuffle between the teachers and students of the Dhaka University centring appointment of its VC panel.
Manna regretted that the students used to demonstrate against shifting of examination but they are now doing the reverse for examination of the schedule and routine and police carried out attack on them.
He said that there should a third political force other than the two political alliances led by the ruling Awami League and the BNP.
