Dhaka, 02 Dec – The defence in the August 21 grenade attack case on Tuesday begun placing arguments and lawyer of fugitive Md Hanif first took the podium.Advocate Chaitanya Chandra Halder, lawyer of fugitive, owner of Hanif Paribahan, begun submitting arguments while he told the court that his client was included in the case after the second testimonies of Huji leader Mufti Abdul Hannan.
Meanwhile, prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain Kajal submitted some arguments in connection with the trial of the murder of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, when he mentioned, “The criminals conducted the attack on August 21, 2004, to make absence in the leadership of Awami League killing its president Sheikh Hasina.”
Then Judge Shahed Nur Uddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 said, the prosecution would get time to place their further arguments, after the defence would complete their part. The Judge conducted yesterdays’ proceedings of the case at the makeshift court set up on the Ali Madrasa ground of Bakshibazar in the city.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing defence arguments till today (Wednesday). On December 27, last year, the prosecution concluded their arguments on facts of the sensational case.
A total of 24 Awami League leaders and activists including the then Mohila Awami League President and wife of late President Zillur Rahman, Ivy Rahman, were killed and over 300 others suffered splinter injuries in the grenade attack on an Awami League rally that held at the Bangabandhu Avenue of the city on August 21, 2004. The incumbent Prime Minister and the then leader of the opposition Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped the heinous attack. – Special Correspondent
