An 11-day long ‘Bangabandhu Cultural Festival’ began with the inauguration of an art camp at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on Wednesday.BSA organized the festival on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic speech of 7th March.
As part of the festival, the art camp was organized on the 7th March speech with the participation of 47 artists of Bangladesh. The art camp was inaugurated by painter Samarjit Roy Chowdhury at the national art gallery of BSA in the morning and presided over by the Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky.
DG of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky said “In the 47th anniversary of the historic 7th March speech, 47 artistes from across the country will work in different ways on 7th March speech. In their canvas we will see the philosophy of the speech and its effect. Among the participants, many artists who were present at the historic Racecourse Ground on Sunday, March 7, 1971 and heard Bangabandhu’s remarks. They will paint on canvas from their real experience of that time.”
Artist Hamiduzzaman Khan, Jamal Ahmed and Farida Zaman expressed their feelings by commemorating the 7th March speech. An exhibition will be organized to display the artworks from the art camp in the future. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s Fine Arts director Ashraful Alam Poplu conducted the opening ceremony.
Alongside, the festival will be celebrated from 7th to 17th March through various cultural programs. Special festivals have been organized for the participation of veteran artists, poets, women, children and physically challenged children.
Eleven days will feature poetry recitation, painting competitions, dance productions, film production, workshop, drama, acrobatic exhibition, 7th March speech competition.
Also, as part of ‘Bangabandhu Cultural Festival 2018′, a stage performance ‘Shishuder Bangabandhu’ was held in the national theater auditorium of BSA on the inaugural day while an event ‘Banglar Mohioshi Nari’ featuring music, dance, and recitation will be held at the national music and dance centre auditorium of the academy on Thursday at 6 pm marking the Women’s Day.
