Dhaka, April 9 – The Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka yesterday completed hearing arguments on behalf of 30 arguments in the August 21 grenade attack case.Later, Judge Shahed Noor Uddin of the court adjourned hearing arguments till today (Tuesday).
Some lawyers including Abdus Sobhan Tarafder placed their submissions yesterday on behalf of the defence, while advocates Syed Rezaur Rahman, Special PP Md Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan, Akram Uddin Syamal and others represented the prosecution in the court set up at the old central jail on Nazimuddin Road in the capital.
On January 1, the prosecution completed their arguments on behalf of the prosecution. On August 21, 2004, the grenade attack was conducted on a rally, organised by the Awami League in front of their central office at Bangabandhu Avenue.
The incident caused the death of 24 people including Ivy Rahman, the wife of late President Zillur Rahman and some hundreds of people were injured in the incident. The incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped the deadly incident. However, she was also injured in the incident. – Special Correspondent
