Dhaka, April 9 – The inauguration of a solo exhibition entitled PHOTOSEUM, by noted portrait photographer Nasir Ali Mamun, on 10 April 2018, Tuesday, 5:00 pm, at Nalini Kanta Bhattasali Gallery of Bangladesh National Museum, Dhaka. Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, Hon’ble Minister for Cultural Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, will grace the occasion as chief guest, while Mr. Matiur Rahman, Editor, Daily Prothom Alo and Mr. Abul Khair, Chairman, Bengal Foundation, will be present as honourable guests. Mr. Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will also be present as special guest. Mr. Faizul Latif Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh National Museum will preside over the occasion.
Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman will inaugurate the exhibition.
The exhibition is supported by ARTcon, and dedicated to National Professor Abdur Razzaq (1914-1999).
Total 132 portraits of celebrities from different time and background will be displayed at the exhibition.
Exhibition is open for public viewing from 10 April – 03 May 2018 at the Nalini Kanta Bhattasali Gallery of Bangladesh National Museum. Saturday to Thursday from 10:30 am to 8:00 pm and 2:30 pm – 8:30 pm on Friday.
About the Artist: Nasir Ali Mamun, a central figure of Bangladesh photography, was born in 1953 at the old part of Dhaka, a city with a history dating back over 400 years. A self-taught photographer, Mamun, transformed his childhood fascination for eminent and venerated celebrities into a passion for portrait photography. He was a teenager when he began taking photographs with a camera that he borrowed from a neighborhood photo-studio. Since 1972, Mamun has been photographing notable figures and has captured their time mostly in iconic black and white imagery. Today, Mamun is the most influential portrait photographer of his time, who has captured the prominent faces in Bangladesh and beyond revealing the persona of that individual and creating outstanding visuals. Mamun’s portraitures have been highly acclaimed in 56 solo exhibitions both home and abroad. He has authored two books on photography and about a dozen on interviews. He received Lifetime Achievement Award from Chobi Mela International Festival of Photography and ‘Celebrating Life’ by Standard Chartered Bank and The Daily Star in 2017.
