Double-murder in Eskaton, argument deferred

Dhaka, June 27 – The First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka on Wednesday day deferred the date to hear the arguments in the double-murder case of Eskaton of the city to July 17. Judge Md Al-Mamun of the court deferred the date in response to a petition of Pinu Khan MP’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony seeking time.
Rony has been made the lone accused in the charge sheet of the case while a jeep driver and his three friends were made prosecution witnesses (PWs).
On June 1, 2015, law enforcers arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence of the city in connection with firing. He allegedly fired shots indiscriminately from his car in the city’s New Eskaton late at night on April 13, 2015, critically injuring rickshaw-puller and an auto-rickshaw driver. Later, rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 of the same year while
auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali died at the same hospital on April 23.
Slain Hakim’s mother Mowara Begum filed the murder case accusing some unidentified persons on April 15 of the same year. – Court Correspondent
