Bail petition of actress Nawshaba rejected

Dhaka, Aug 13 – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday rejected a petition seeking bail for actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act for allegedly spreading rumours on social media in connection with the student protests for safe roads. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur of the CMM Court passed the order on Monday afternoon after Nawshaba’s lawyer AH Imrul Quasar filed the petition seeking bail for the actress Nawshaba after completion of her 6-day remand in two phases.
Meanwhile, the actress Nawshaba was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday afternoon after she fell sick. The court was critical about the Investigation Officer Rafiqul Islam, an Inspector of Cyber Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), for not producing Sawshaba during the Monday’s proceedings and instead allowing her to be taken to hospital without the court’s direction about the incident.
She was taken to DMCH around 3.30 pm as she was felling unwell, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman told the media.
Physicians said that she was suffering from dysentery and sent to a diagnostic center for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan.
Nawshaba was detained from Uttara on August 4 for allegedly spreading rumours on social media about the student protest for safe roads. Police said she did so to create anarchy and confuse the society. – Correspondent
