The Executive Engineer of Bhola’s Power Development Board (PDB) Mohmmad Ali has been put under temporary suspension for dereliction of duty as the district’s 1800,000 residents have been without power since Saturday night due to some technical snag. Deputy Commissioner of the district Khondokar Mostafizur Rahman informed the press of the decision quoting Chief Engineer of the West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited that supplies power to the coastal district.
Due to some technical problems, the 34.5-MW capacity gas-based power plant in the district stopped functioning, snapping power supply in the entire district since Saturday night.
The district is also not getting electricity from national grid as the underwater Bhola-Patuakhali marine cable line too has been out of order for the last 15 days.
Residents of this island district are uncertain about the restoration of electricity. Water supplies to hospitals and five municipality areas, including Bhola municipality, in the district have been disrupted due to power cut, compounding the sufferings of the people.
Bhola Rental Power Plant Executive Hafizur Rahman said due to problems in the generator, power could not be produced since 9pm Saturday.
“India-based Alston Company, which has installed the generator, has been informed of the problem. The power production will be resumed only after the experts from the company fix the problem.” – bdnews24.com
