Nine people were arrested along with arms and ammunition in Jessore, Bagerhat, Pabna and Madaripur districts on Saturday night and Sunday.In Jessore, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested three men along with a firearm and a bullet from Kagojpur Bazar in Sharsha upazila early Sunday.
The arrested are Julfikar, 35, Liakat and Gaffar. They hail from different villages under Benapole Port Police Station.
Sub-inspector Abdul Aziz of Benapole Port Police Station said on secret information, a team of Rab conducted a drive in the area at about 12:30am and arrested the trio along with a shooter gun, one bullet and one motorcycle.
Later, the elite force handed them over them to police.
A case was filed against them.
In Bagerhat, police arrested three arms traders, including a woman, from Madhabkathi village in Kachua upazila on Sunday.
The arrested were identified as Kasem Sarder, 55, his wife Momena, 40, and his cousin Habib Sheikh of the village.
Officer-in-charge of Kachua Police Station M Abu Zihad Fakhrul Alam said on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive at the house of Kasem in the early hours and arrested them.
Later, police recovered a pipe gun from the house.
A case was filed in this connection.
In Madaripur, a member of an inter-district robber gang was arrested from Samitir Haat area in Kalkini upazila on Saturday night.
The arrested is Telem Qazi, 40.
Sources at Detective Branch (DB) of police said a DB team, led by sub-inspector Andullah Al Mamun, conducted a drive in the area at about 11pm posing as arms buyers and arrested Telem posing.
The plainclothes police recovered a pipe gun and five bullets from his possession.
In Pabna, Rab members arrested two arms traders along with four rounds of bullet from Dashuria intersection in Ishwardi upazilla on Saturday night.
The arrested — Mahtab, 45, and Lal Mia, 38, — hailed from Pabna and Sirajganj districts.
Additional police super Sheikh Zahidul Islam of Rab-5 said being tipped-off, a team of Rab launched a drive in the area at about 9pm and arrested the duo.
