Magura DPEO sued on bribery charge

A case was filed against the district primary education officer (DPEO) of Magura on Wednesday on charge of demanding bribe from a woman for job.Shakawat Hossain of Kushkhali village in Shalikha upazila filed the case with Magura Judicial Magistrate Court against DPEO Sirajudduha of Magura.According to the prosecution, Shakawat’s niece Rohima Khatun qualified in the written test for government primary school teacher job about four months ago and accordingly, she had been waiting for the viva voce card to be issued by the district primary education office.Prior to issuance of the card, Sirajudduha called Rahima to his office and demanded Tk4 lakh as bribe for arranging the job for her, but the candidate turned down the offer as she belonged to the freedom fighter quota.Angered by the denial, the officer did not issue any card to her and she could not attend the viva voce.The plaintiff submitted all documents related to his allegations and the court ordered a judicial magistrate to look into the matter.Contacted, DPEO Sirajudduha denied the allegations brought against him, terming them as fabricated and baseless. -UNB, Magura
