BGB seizes Tk102 cr contrabands in 7 months in Jessore

The 26 Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion has seized smuggled goods worth Tk102 crore in the last seven months in Jessore.During the period, the BGB seized record quantity of drugs, including Yaba, liquor and Indian Phensidyl syrup, worth crores of taka.The contraband items were seized while entering the country from India or being smuggled out to the neighbouring country from Bangladesh.BGB sources said they have seized a good number of foreign made weapons during the time.The border force has strengthened its watch on the border so that arms and weapons cannot enter the country ahead of the next general elections, added the sources.26 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Matiur Rahman told reporters that smugglers were smuggling goods worth crores of taka through Jessore border by evading tax.He said to stop smuggling of the goods, BGB has continued its anti-smuggling drives in Benapole and Chaugachha upazilas of Jessore and Maheshpur upazila of Jhenidah.He hoped that they could seize smuggled goods worth Tk200 crore this year. -UNB, Jessore
