Dhaka: Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of Asia Pacific University,
received Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal-2012 in recognition of his outstanding
contribution to the field of education and research.
Prof. Dr Wahid Uddin Ahmed, Ombudsman of BIRDEM (Bangladesh Institute of
Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders), attended
the function as a chief guest and handed over the medal, introduced by Dhaka Ahsania
Mission (DAM), to Jamilur Reza Choudhury at DAM auditorium in the city on Saturday.
DAM President Kazi Rafiqul Alam presided over while Professor (retd) of Philosophy
department of Dhaka University Dr Aminul Islam read out the key-note paper.
Former secretary and ex-Chairman of the National Board of Revenue Dr Mohammad
Abdul Majid and Vice-Chancellor of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology
(AUST) Dr A MM Shafiullah were present as discussants.
Addressing on the occasion, the speakers said the nation feel proud if its worthy citizens
get due honour.
They lauded late Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah, noted educationist and social reformer, for
his significant contribution to the field of education in the sub-continent.
Born in Sylhet, Jamilur Reza Choudhury had his early education from St. Gregory’s
School and Dhaka College in Dhaka. He obtained first class first in B.Sc. Engineering
(Civil) in 1963 from University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) and M. Sc.
engineering and Ph.D. from University of Southampton in 1968.
Dr. Choudhury joined BUET as a lecturer in Civil Engineering department in 1963 and
was made Professor of the department in 1976.
Introduced in 1986, Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal is given to those who make
important contribution to different fields.
The medal has been given to 21 noted personalities so far.
