Farmers of the district are so much happy to buy urea fertilizer at a cheaper rate to produce their high value agriculture crops including rice during the current season.
The farmers expressed their satisfaction and also thanked the government for reducing the price against the fertilizer, which plays vital and significant role in producing the crops.
According to sources just after assuming to power in 2009, the AL led grand alliance government reduced the price of all chemical fertilizers including urea at the greater interest of the farmers. Price of per kg of urea was fixed at Tk 20.
Later, to inspire the farmers to produce more agri crops in a bid to help them earn economical profit and achieve the country’s food security, the government decreased Tk 4 per kg on August 25.
Now, per kg of urea sells at Tk 16 in place of Tk 20 and it has made the farmers more tolerable to afford the expense against the production of various types of agri crops including current T-Aman paddy.
The officials of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) led by its deputy director (DD) are closely monitoring the sale of fertilizer by the dealers so that the farmers could buy it in new rate without any hassle.

When contacted, deputy commissioner Dr Quazi Anwarul Haque said agri-friendly government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had set a unique example through decreasing the price of urea fertilizer very recently as the farmers’ community had started getting its benefit. -BSS, Gaibandha
