Two policemen were injured in an attack by Jamaat-Shibir men during a drive to arrest a
violence case accused at Kora village in Debhata upazila early Monday.
The injured were identified as Sub-inspector Zulfiker Ali and constable Abdus Selim of
Debhata Police Station.
Officer-in-charge of the police station Abdul Bari said a team of police, led by SI
Zulfiker, raided the house of Abdullah, a local activist of Jamaat-e-Islami, at midnight on
Sunday to arrest him in a case for Jamaat-Shibir violence in April.
Later, some activists of Jamaat and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir made a false
announcement through loudspeaker at a mosque that a gang of robbers entered the area.
At one stage, the unruly Jamaat-Shibir men, aided by some local people, swooped on the
police team, leaving two of its members injured.
The policemen later left the area sensing trouble.
The attackers also vandalised a motorcycle of the police team.
The injured policemen were admitted to Debhata Upazila Health Complex. -UNB,
