BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas on Monday urged the diehard party leaders and activists to remain alert so that no one within the party can hatch any conspiracy against BNP like that of the 1/11 changeover in 2007.
“BNP was determined not to go to polls in 2008. Our leader (Khaleda) had told us she won’t go to polls. But all of a sudden, she changed her mind and announced to go to polls. We’ve to remain vigilant about those conspirators who had motivated her to join the polls,” he told a discussion.
Abbas, also a former minister, said, “The traitors of 1/11 are still active. We must remain careful so that no conspirator can sway the party to take part in the polls under Sheikh Hasina.” He threatened that BNP, if it returns to power, will take action against the 1/11 players along with the traitors within the party.
Swadhinata and Sanghati Forum, a pro-opposition body, arranged the discussion at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 6th ‘jail release day’ of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman. Abbas alleged that the government is conspiring so that Tarique Rahman cannot return home. The BNP leader said they will not go to polls without restoration of the caretaker government and until Tarique Rahman’s return.
“We’ll make our every effort to keep the leader (Khaleda) away from the conspirators within the party.” Abbas also said BNP will resist any move of the government to hold a lopsided parliamentary election under their own arrangement.
Addressing the programme, another BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Miah said people will say goodbye to this regime for ever if it tries to hold the polls without restoration of the government defying their demand.
He alleged that those who had tried to destroy BNP by arresting its chairperson Khaleda Zia also unlawfully tortured her son Tarique Rahman in a bid to kill him. –UNB
