A court here on Tuesday convicted a sub-inspector of police (SI) for graft and sentenced him to two years’ rigorous imprisonment. Judge Motahar Hossain of Special Court-3 also fined SI M Rakibul Hasan Tk 10,000, in default, two months more rigorous imprisonment.
According to the case statement, M Rakibul Hasan, an SI of Mirpur Police Station in 2010, demanded Tk 2 lakh from a woman in bribe. SI Rakibul was caught red-handed by a team of the Anti Corruption Commission while he was taking Tk 5,000 from the woman as part payment of the total amount in Mirpur area of the city in that year.
After his arrest, the ACC team had gone to Mirpur Police Station to file a case against SI Rakibul Hasan on charge of taking bribe, but police denied taking any case against him. Later, the ACC filed a case against Rakibul with a court in this regard. After examining the records and witnesses, the Judge punished the policeman. – UNB
