A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) mobile court here on Tuesday sentenced the owner of a pharmaceutical company to two years’ jail and sealed off the company for manufacturing low quality of medicines. Besides, the court also fined the owner and three others Tk 100,000 each and seized low quality medicines worth about Tk 25 lakh during the drive. The mobile court, led by RAB headquarters executive magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha, conducted the drive at Bengal Techno Pharma in the city’s Panthapath at about 2:00 pm.
RAB magistrate Anwar Pasha said the owner of Bengal Techno Pharma Mohammad Ali Khan, 53, was sentenced to two years’ simple imprisonment. Besides, he said, Mohammad Ali and three of his employees –– Nuruzzaman Chowdhury, 30, M Musharraf Hossain, 58, and AKM Borhan Uddin alias Sumon, 32 –– were also fined of Tk 100,000 each. The fines were realised on the spot.
During the drive, the RAB mobile court found that the company has been manufacturing and distributing the low quality medicines although the Drug Administration on March 14 in 2011 imposed ban on production and delivery of medicines suspending the Bengal Techno Pharma’s license. Maj Himadri Shekhar Ray of RAB-2 and Drug Administration representative M Mahbub Hosssain were present during the drive by RAB mobile court. – UNB
