Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and leader of the opposition Begum Khaleda Zia will
address a public rally in Sylhet on October 5 to press for its demand for the non-partisan caretaker
government.
Local coordinator Sylhet city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that the public meeting would
organise as part of the ongoing opposition movement for the restoration of the non-party caretaker
government system that scrapping through the 15th Amendment to the Constitution for holding
national election.
The former premier Khaleda Zia will address the rally as the chief guest to inspire her party leaders,
activists and supporters for launching an agitation programme against the government, Sylhet city
mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury said.
It will be Khaleda Zia’s third public meeting in Sylhet since the assumption of power by the Awami
League led-grand alliance government, he said.
Mayor Arif added that they would gather lakh of people for rally on October 5 to protest against
the failure and misrule of the present government, indiscriminate killing of people, land grabbing,
tender manipulation and other illegal activities, price hike of daily essentials, shortage of gas and
electricity etc.
He also said preparations for the divisional rally have already been continuing. All the leaders and
activists are working together to make the mass gathering successful and the party is strongly united
