A Dhaka court on Tuesday fixed October 24 for hearing in a case filed against 46 leaders of BNP-led 18-party Opposition alliance including BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for torching a bus in front of the Prime Minister’s Office on April 29 last year.
Magistrate Harun-ur-Rashid of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order after hearing on the time petitions, submitted on behalf of the 18-party alliance leaders.
Of the 46 accused, five leaders including retired Brig Hannan Shah, Amam Ullah Amanand Nazim Uddin Alam appeared to the court while time petitions were submitted on behalf of the remaining 41 leaders. Other accused include BNP leaders MK Anwar MP, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Mirza Abbas, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Shahid Uddin Chowdhuty Annie MP.
On July 31 of last year, a Dhaka court framed charges against the accused leaders.
Tejgaon police filed the case against the leaders, hours after a bus was set ablaze in front of the PMO on April 29, last year.
On May 10 of the year, detectives pressed charges against the leaders including the BNP Acting Secretary General in the case. – Court Correspondent
