The current session of Parliament is likely to be extended further by two days, according to a Parliament Secretariat source.
The Business Advisory Committee earlier decided to continue the session till November 7. Now the session is likely to be continued till Monday to pass some important bills pending with the House, said the source.
The session might be extended further if the two major parties are agreed to discuss the election-time government in Parliament, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the sitting of the 19th session of Ninth Parliament begins at 4:30pm on Monday after a five-day recess amid boycott of the opposition lawmakers.
Opposition chief whip Zainul Abdin Farroque told The Independent that they are not going to join the session.
“No discussion on joining the session was taken place and there is also no decision to take part in it,” he said.
However, sources said the opposition leader may take the opportunity to deliver her concluding speech before ending the session that may be the last session of the current Parliament.
The session began on September 12 and had 16-day sittings.
The opposition BNP-led by Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar on October 23 joined the session and placed opposition leader Khaleda Zia’s election-time cabinet formula in the House.
At one stage, the opposition lawmakers walked out after few hours of their joining protesting remarks of the ruling party lawmakers against BNP founder President Ziaur Rahman. – Staff Reporter
