Prosecution hopes a verdict in the money laundering case against BNP
Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman will come this month.
Finishing the argument in the case on Thursday, Anti-Corruption
Commission lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajol told journalists “I hope the
verdict in this case will come this month.”
After Thursday’s hearing, Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court judge Motahar
Hossain set Monday for the defence to begin counter argument.
The court on Thursday fixed Nov 11 for hearing the argument of the
defense in the money laundering case against BNP Senior Vice Chairman
Tarique Rahman and his friend Giasuddin Al Mamun.
While concluding the argument on behalf of the prosecution Anti
Corruption Commission (ACC) Special Public Prosecutor Mosharraf
Hossain Kajal sought maxim punishment as per law for the accused, as
they claimed to have successfully proved all the charges in the case.
Besides, he appealed to Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-3 for asking the
Foreign Secretary to submit a report to the court about the compliance
of arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman.
On Nov 3, after completion of recording the statement of defense
witnesses on behalf of Mamun, the court set the date for hearing on
arguments.
Earlier, the court recorded the statements of 13 prosecution
witnesses, including an FBI official. It also recorded depositions of
five defense witnesses.
The ACC had filed the case against the duo on October 26, 2009, in
connection with siphoning out of Tk 20.41 crore to Singapore between
2003 and 2007. – Court Correspondent
