At least eight houses were gutted in a fire which broke out at Dulal Matabbar Dangi village in Sadarpur upazila on Saturday morning.
Witnesses said the fire originated from the kitchen of Moyna Begum at about 7am and soon engulfed the adjacent seven houses.Local people doused the fire after two hours of frantic efforts.Upazila Nirbahi Officer M Lokman Hossain said each family was given Tk 2,000 and two warm clothes.House owners said that the extent of loss from the fire could go up Tk 20 lakh. -UNB, Faridpur
