Judicial probe into attacks on religious minorities urged

Bangladesh Minority Watch (BMW) on Thursday demanded judicial probe into the recent attacks on the country’s religious minorities. The BMW placed a record of the recent communal attacks at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity.BMW president Rabindra Ghosh said many minority Hindu families are reportedly leaving the country in the face of communal attacks in various forms, including rape, land grabbing and forced conversion. According to media reports published between 2009 and 2013, 72 minority women reportedly fell victim to rape, while 50 others were kidnapped on communal grounds by miscreants, claimed Ghosh.
More than 1,000 minority families have faced illegal occupation of their lands and more than 200 of the minority peoples were forcefully converted during the period, he added.   “The recurrent attacks have created an environment of perpetual fear for the minority communities and many of the families are leaving the country for good,” he said. – UNB
