Jamaat-e-Islami has called for a dawn-to-dusk general strike in Chittagong on Sunday.The strike will be observed in the metropolitan and district to protest the killing of two of its activists earlier in the week, Jamaat Chittagong unit Publicity Secretary Mohammad Ullah told journalists.
But the Primary School Certificate (PSC) examination will be exempted from the strike, he said.
On Wednesday, Barabkunda Jamaat unit’s General Secretary Aminul Islam’s body was found at Sitakundu Upazila’s Ponthichila area. His bullet-ridden body was discovered three days after he went missing.
Family members had claimed that Islam was allegedly picked up by Detective Branch police from Comilla’s Chouddagram on Nov 17 while he was on his way to Chittagong from Dhaka.
Jamaat activists went berserk damaging and torching vehicles on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Sitakunda after his body was recovered. They also attacked and set fire to the houses of several local Awami League leaders and activists.
The party’s port city unit General Secretary Md Nazrul Islam claimed that the ruling party activists were behind Islam’s murder.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of Jamaat activist Jasim Uddin at Mirsarai early on Saturday.
The party’s local leadership has blamed Awami League’s student affiliate Bangladesh Chhatra League activists for the killing.-bdnews24.com
