China welcomes dialogue

China on Thursday welcomed the two rounds of dialogue between ruling Awami League and opposition BNP, hoping Bangladesh’s politicians would make “best use of their wisdom to hammer out a solution acceptable to all”.In a media release on the visit of the special envoy of China’s Foreign Ministry Luo Zhaohui, the Chinese embassy said there were worried about the unrelenting political tensions in Bangladesh.
It said a solution would benefit “its people as well as regional stability and the cause of development at large”.
As a “close neighbour and friend”, China considers “a growing and stable” Bangladesh in their interest.
“The new Chinese leadership attaches great importance to developing relations with Bangladesh and views Bangladesh as a natural partner in China’s opening up to the west.”
Ambassador Zhaohui completed his two day visit on Thursday.
During his visit, he met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad and met top government officials.
Chinese embassy said his visit was aimed at “promoting bilateral friendship and all-round cooperation, especially to strengthen coordination with Bangladesh on developing the BCIM Economic Corridor”.
Besides, Zhaohui also assessed the current political situation in Bangladesh, said the media release.
The ruling Awami League and opposition BNP have been at loggerheads over the upcoming polls on the issue of oversight.
BNP has already boycotted the elections.
UN emissary Oscar Fernandez-Taranco was involved in hectic parleys this week and managed to bring the two rival parties to the table to work out a resolution.
Fernandez-Taranco left Dhaka on Wednesday evening but the leaders of the two parties leaders were scheduled to resume the negotiations on Friday again.-bdnews24.com
