Dhaka – Local public representatives have been asked to take measures so that no subversive act can take place in their respective areas, or else they will have to face the music. The instruction was given from a meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order held at Home Ministry on Sunday with Land and Disaster Minister Amir Hossain Amu in the chair.
Jatiya Party leader and Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed, Railways Minister Mojibul Haque, Telecommunications Minister Rashed Khan Menon, State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku and State Minister for Law Advocate Quamrul Islam, among others, attended the meeting.
Blaming Jamaat-Shibir activists for most of the subversive acts across the country, the meeting decided to involve local people in the process to defuse the growing violence.
Sources said the meeting observed that if public representatives can involve local people in their activities no one would dare to commit any subversive act.
Another source said local public representatives, including Union Parishad (UP) chairmen and members, have been instructed to take necessary steps to avert any subversive act in their respective areas. “If they (people representatives) need any logistic support in this regard, the government will provide those,” said a senior official who attended the meeting.
Replying to a question, he said if any public representative fails to comply with the order, he or she will face punitive actions as per rules. – UNB
