A Dhaka court on Tuesday dismissed a defamation case against Opposition Leader Begum Khaleda Zia for her disputed remarks and allegedly threatening police personnel.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order after hearing and also said the case could be heard in the High Court and not in a Magistrate Court.
The Magistrate of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court also observed that it was not clear how the complainant, Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddique, was defamed by the Opposition leader’s Khaleda Zia’s comment.
Siddique filed the complaint on Tuesday morning accusing the BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia of issuing threats during her talks with police on Sunday.
The Opposition Leader was criticised by a group of Gopalganj residents as well by Awami League leaders for the comments.
In his complaint AB Siddique, a resident of Gopalganj, said that the comment was defamatory and he charged Khaleda Zia for alleged issuing threat and instigation. He also demanded a compensation Tk one hundred for the alleged defamation. – Court Correspondent
