Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered the body of a man from the Ichhamati River in Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Tariqul Islam, 40, son of Badel Ali of Harddah village of the upazila.
BGB-38 battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Imam Ahsan said local people found the body of Tariqul floating in the river in India’s Chholdana area opposite Harddah border on Saturday morning and informed them.
Later, BGB aided by Indian police recovered the body around 2:00pm and handed over it to the victim’s family members.
Tariqul had gone to catch fish in the river on Friday night and he might have drowned there as he was an epilepsy patient, said Imam Ahsan. -UNB, Satkhira
