Jamaat-e-Islami, an ally of BNP-led 19-party alliance, has deferred its daylong countrywide hartal programme to Thursday protesting the verdict on the 10-truck arms haul case sentencing 14 persons, including the party’s Ameer Mualana Motiur Rahaman Nezami, to death.Earlier, the Jamaat had called the dawn-to-dusk shutdown for Monday on the issue but it was suspended on Saturday due to Biswa Ijtema and Saraswati Puja.
Acting secretary general of Jamaat Dr Shafiqur Rahman made this fresh announcement in a statement yesterday.
The Jamaat leader said his party would enforce the hartal to protest against what it called the government conspiracy to kill Maulana Nizami in a planned way.
He alleged that Nezami’s name was not included in the first information report (FIR), but later in 2011 his name was inducted by the government brining imaginary allegations against him.
He called upon the party leaders and activists as well as people to make the shutdown a success. – Staff Reporter
