Dhaka – The High Court on Sunday stayed for three months the proceedings of two cases filed against four bloggers under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
The HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mohammad Ullah also issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why the case proceedings should not be declared cancelled.The stay order and the rule came following petitions filed by the bloggers.
The bloggers are Asif Mohiuddin, Mashiur Rahman Biplab, Russell Parvez and Subrata Shuvo.
Detective Branch of police arrested the four bloggers for posting “derogatory write-ups about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)” on the Internet.
Of them, Asif was arrested on April 3 while the rest on April 2.
Police filed two cases -– one against Asif and the other against Shuvo, Biplab and Parvez –- under the ICT Act 2006 on April 17.
On September 8, a Dhaka court framed charges against the four bloggers in the two separate cases. – UNB
