A mobile court here on Tuesday sentenced two Bangladesh Chhatra League men to separate jail terms for their attempts to snatch a tender box in Tala upazila.
The convicts are BCL upazila unit vice-president Munnaf Hossain Shimpu and its activist Fazlur Rahman. The court, led by assistant commissioner (Land) Shafiqur Rahman of the upazila, sentenced Shimpu to six months in prison while jailed Fazlur Rahman for two months.Shafiqur Rahman said Shimpu and Fazlur attempted to snatch the tender box relating to the lease of local hat-bazaar kept in his office around 11 am.
Later, the office staff caught the duo and produced them before the court which handed down the punishment to them.
Meanwhile in Sylhet, police on Tuesday detained a local leader of Jubo Mahila League for slapping a traffic policeman.
Minara Begum, finance secretary of Sylhet district unit of Jubo Mahila League, allegedly slapped the traffic member in the city’s Zindabazar area around 2 pm as he did not allow her through the one-way road on rickshaw. – UNB
