Work for dev of police to continue: Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Friday said the present government will continue to work for the overall development of police.
“The present government has given police the honour and increased their status. Work for the development of the force, including promotion, will continue,” he said.The minister was addressing the annual sports competition programme of police at Jhalakati Police Lines ground in the morning.
Amu said policemen were the first victims of the countrywide anarchy carried out by BNP-Jamaat ahead of the January 5 parliamentary elections.
“Police members were killed and they came under attacks frequently during the anarchy,” he noted. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Barisal Range) Dr Abdur Rahim attended the function a special guest presided over by Superintendent of Police Majid Ali.
Jhalakati Deputy Commissioner Sakhawat Hossain and Jhalakati sadar municipality mayor Afzal Hossain, among others, were present in the programme. Later, the minister distributed prizes among the winners of 31 events of the competition. – UNB
