Jhenaidah – Ain O Shalish Kendra executive director, ex advisor to the caretaker government Advocate Sultana Kamal has said, “extrajudicial killings widely known as crossfire to the law enforcing ageniies are one of the most formidable barriers to the establishment of good governance in our country. This sort of extrajudicial killing and enforced disappearance of people on political lines should be stopped without delay”.
Sultana Kamal was addressing a gathering in the conference room of the Jhenaidah deputy commissioner when she was unveiling the cover of a book titled ‘Jelar Manabadhikar Paristhiti Parjalochona’ (a review on the human rights situation in the district) as chief guest on Saturday evening.The District Human Rights Forum arranged the programme. Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Safiqul Islam the function was addressed by Assistant police super Nazrul Islam, Upazila nirbahi officer Julkar Nayon, Human Rights Lawyers Association president Dabir Hossain among others.
Sultana Kamal said, incidents of human rights violation, especially to the women were on the rise and has become alarming. Both literate and illiterate people were affected by these violations. The mental makeup of the people should be changed an early date to ensure human rights equally for men, women and children, she said.
The chief guest condemning the torture and repression on women, rape, killing and other crimes, said an independent country can not move forward if these irregularities do not disappear. The people should protest the misdeeds of the public sectors to establish a just society free from terrorism, killing and abuse, she said. – From Shahneawz Khan Sumon, by email
