Madrasah teacher killed for ‘protesting stalking’

A madrasah teacher has been slaughtered by a local youth allegedly for protesting sexual harassment of a girl at Shahjadpur Upazila in Sirajganj district.
The deceased has been identified as Nazrul Islam, 65, a teacher of Chandragati Dakhil Madrasa at Digrirchar village under Ullapara Upazila.He was first stabbed and then his throat was slit at Shafaj crossing on Saturday morning.
Witnesses said one Ruhul Amin, 31, son of Bahadur Mia of Tekuapara village of Shahjadpur Upazila, brutally killed the sexagenarian teacher with sharp weapon around 9am.
Locals later nabbed the killer and handed him over to police.
Officer-in-Charge of the Shahjadpur Police Station Hasan Shamim Iqbal told bdnews24.com that Ruhul Amin stabbed the teacher indiscriminately before slitting his throat when he was on his way to the madrasa.
He said that the youth might have killed the teacher over previous enmity.
Dikrir Chor Government Primary School Head Master Fonindra Nath said that Ruhul teased a girl of a nearby village a month ago. Nazrul Islam noticed this and informed the locals about the incident.
“Later, Ruhul was kept neck-deep inside a local pond for the whole day as punishment after a village arbitration. Ruhul might have killed the teacher in order to take revenge,” he added.
Police sent the body to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
