Two courts of Dhaka on Sunday sent Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal President Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel to jail rejecting his bail petitions in 11 cases.
Metropolitan Magistrates Rezaul Karim and Anwar Sadat passed the order after hearing on his bail petitions. Sohel surrendered to the courts on completion of his bail, granted by the apex court. He sought bail 13 cases against him.However, Sohel was granted bail in two cases filed with Shahbagh and Paltan Police Stations of the capital.
Sohel’s lawyer Mosharraf Hossain moved for the petition.
The Swechchhasebak Dal President was made accused in four cases filed with Motijheel Police Station, four with Paltan Police Station, three with Shahbagh and two with Ramna Police Station.
Of the 13 cases 10 were filed against Sohel on the allegation of violence during Hefazat-e-Islam’s programme at Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar area May 5 last year, while three others were filed for bomb blasts, arson attacks and obstructing police when they were performing their duties.

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) central committee general secretary Habibur Rashid Habib on a one-day remand in a case filed the under Explosive Substances Act and for vandalism.
Magistrate Rezaul Karim Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court granted the remand at about 12:15 pm Sunday after a hearing on the remand petition of the prosecution. However, the court refused remand plea against Habib in another case and fixed |April 9 for hearing on another remand petition.
Earlier, Sub-Inspector Altaf Hossain of Shahbagh Police Station produced the JCD leader to the court with a five-day remand prayer in a case filed for vandalism and torching vehicle at Shahbagh during the BNP-led 18-party sponsored shutdown on April 2 last year.
Besides, cases were filed against him on the charge of bombs explosion during the shutdowns of January, March and April last year.
Some pro-BNP lawyers including Mohsin Mia and Masud Ahmed Talukder opposed the remand pleas and sought bail of the JCD leader. – Court Correspondent
