BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has defeat of the government through success of movement may take some time.
“Today, a democratic government has turned into an autocratic government. They grabbed power illegally. So, it may take some time to make movement against them a success,” he said in an interview. The BNP leader however did not mention any specific length of that he meant by “some time.”
He cited the examples of the time that took to force the departure of Aiyub Khan HM Ershad regimes.
Fakhrul criticised the government for not allowing BNP to hold its planned public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday to mark the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
He said the DMP unofficially conveyed that BNP would not be allowed hold meeting at the venue. “They had given us an option to hold the meeting inside the hall but we sought permission for the Udyan not to hold meeting in a hall,” he said.
The BNP leader alleged that the present government does not want to have opposition.
Replying to a question he said involving people in movement and enforcing hartal are only way to force the government to meet the demand for elections under a non-partisan administration.
Meanwhile, addressing a discussion meeting at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka, Fakhrul alleged that present Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu had secretly created a revolutionary force in army to oust the Bangabandhu led government.
“The Inus had done it to lead Bangladesh. He wanted to oust the government through armed revolution,” he added.
The BNP leader said reiterated that the present government would be compelled through movement to hold the election under a non-party administration.
Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (Jagpa) organised the meeting with its president Shafiul Alam Prodhan in the chair.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference at party central office, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that the government has established “policeism” instead of democracy.
He protested and condemned the police attacks on BNP leaders and activists at different places as they were staging demonstration protesting the denial of permission to hold party rally at Suhrawardy Udayn on Saturday. – Staff Reporter
