Savar municipality mayor Mohammad Refayet Ullah was suspended for not taking action immediately after cracks found in Rana Plaza.
The Local government ministry issued an order to this effect on Thursday.
At least 433 garments workers were found dead in the debris of Rana Plaza,which collapsed at 8:45am on April 24.
On April 16 in 2012, the Department of Environment (DoE) fined the mayor Tk 50 lakh for dumping solid wastes into Karnapara canal in Savar.
Refayet Ullah appeared at the DoE`s office after being summoned and admitted to have dumped waste into the canal.banglanews24.com
