The Rural Employment and Road Maintenance programme for destitute women being implemented in the district. by Local Government Engineering department (LGED) will be completed on June 30, official sources said.The government had taken the programme for destitute women to alleviate their poverty by engaging themselves in long term income generation activities.
The objectives of the programme are to activate the rural economy and develop rural roads for easy movement through the maintenance of average 20 Km roads in a year.
Under the programme a total of 700 poor women from 70 unions of the district (10 from one union).have been engaged in the programme from July 2008 designed for five years
They have been getting Tk 90 each as their wage everyday, of themTk 54 is being paid cash and rest 36 is being kept in a joint account of Executive Engineer of LGED and the beneficiary women
The New Nation correspondent while contacted Executive Engineer of LGED, Narsingdi Salim Miah at his office recently told that the RERM programme project will be completed on June 30 this year. He said after completion of the project will be completed on June 30 this year .He said after completion of the project each of the woman will get their saving money with bank inters of Tk over 70,000, (Seventy thousand). The women then with this money for self employment can be taken small project as poultry farming, nursery candle making factory, grocery and stationary shop etc.
