Coupled held for involvement Police rescued a madrasa student from Mandrachar Kusria village in Hijla upazila on Sunday, two days after his abduction from Dhulkhola launch station of the upazila.The rescued, Nurunnabi, 11, was student of Baitus Sajud Hafezi Madrasa and Orphanage in Keraniganj of Dhaka and son of Sobhan Rari, a resident of Charlata of Mehendiganj upazila under Barisal district.Police also arrested a couple for their involvement in the abduction. Shawkat Anwar, officer-in-charge of Hizla Police Station, said Nurrunnabi boarding on MV Shariatpur-3 launch from Dhaka Sadar Ghat started journey towards his village on Thursday evening.When the launch reached Dhulkhola station of the upazila on Friday early morning, Sagor Gazi, 25, and Hazera Begum, 26, a co-passenger couple, told Nurunnabi that they reached Mehendiganj launch station and they alighted from the vessel following him. The couple persuaded Nurunnabi into visiting the house of in-laws of Sagor Gazi, where they confined him.They later contacted the victim’s parents over mobile phone and demanded Tk1.5 lakh as ransom for his release.Nurunnabi’s family members informed police.Later police confirmed the whereabouts of the victim and abductors through mobile phone tracking and rescued Nurunnabi and arrested the abductor couple from Mandrachar Kusria village in Hijla upazila on Sunday noon.A case was filed against the arrestees. -UNB, Barisal
