Abdul Jabbar sentenced to prison unto death for war crimes

Former Member of Parliament from the Jatiya Party Abdul Jabbar has been awarded imprisonment till death for his crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 War of Liberation. ICT – 1 led by Justice Enayetur Rahim gave the verdict on Tuesday.The ICT in its decision said the crimes committed by Abdul Jabbar merited punishment with death but considering his old age he has been given the lesser punishment. After an introduction from Justice Enayetur Rahim the 141-page verdict was read out.
Abdul Jabbar who is absconding faced charges of killing 36 persons, religious conversion of 200 people, vandalising 557 homes and setting those afire. The charge framing in the case against him started on 14 August last year and it was pending verdict since December 3. – News Desk
