The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started collecting information and documents to launch inquiry into wealth of Noor Hossain, the prime accused in the Narayanganj seven murders, based on allegations against him of amassing huge wealth.
“The commission started the task at least two weeks ago,” said ACC secretary M Faizur Rahman Chowdhury yesterday while addressing monthly press briefing of the commission at its headquarters at Segun Bagicha.He said the commission would also take action if it finds evidence of any illegal transaction of money by the three officials of the Rapid Action Battalion. The RAB officials were dismissed for their alleged links with the murders.
Of them, Tareque Sayeed Mohammad and Arif Hossain dismissed from Bangladesh Army and SM Masud Rana from Bangladesh Navy.
The ACC secretary said after the primary investigation, decision would be taken whether the commission to start probe against the three RAB officials.
Noor Hossain and his five associates went into hiding following the killing of Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam, lawyer Chandan Sarker and five others.
The three RAB officials were forced into retirement on May 6 as Nazrul’s father-in-law Shahidul Islam alleged that some officials of RAB-11 had killed Nazrul and others in exchange of Tk six crore bribe from councillor Noor Hossain and his accomplices.
Meanwhile, the ACC yesterday submitted its annual report of 2013 to President Md. Abdul Hamid.
Commission chairman M Badiuzzman and commissioners M Shahabuddin and Naziruddin Ahmed submitted the report to the President at the Bangabhaban, ACC sources said. – Staff Reporter
