The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned two ruling party lawmakers and former ministers—AFM Ruhul Haque and Mahbubur Rahman—to quiz them for amassing illegal wealth beyond their known sources.
The ACC on Wednesday served two separate notices to former minister for health and family welfare AFM Ruhal Haque and former state minister for water resources Mahbubur Rahman. ACC deputy directors Mirza Zahidul Alam and Md Khairul Huda sent the notices to them, according to an official.
He said Mahbubur Rahman, who has been elected Member of Parliament (MP) from Patuakhali-4 unopposed, was asked to appear before the commission on February 23 and AFM Ruhal Haque, who has been elected MP from Satkhira-3 also unopposed, on February 24.
The letters were served as part of the ACC’s endeavour to probe into the allegations of amassing illegal and abnormal wealth by seven former ministers, state ministers and lawmakers.
Earlier on January 22, the commission assigned enquiry officers to probe into the allegations of amassing illegal and abnormal wealth against them.
According to affidavit of Ruhal Haque, his bank balance rose by 10 times during the last five years. Most of the money was in the name of his wife Ela Haque. Ruhal haque had a joint bank account with his wife having a balance of 92 lakh in five years now the bank balance has swollen to Tk over 10 crore.
Mahbubur Rahman became the owners of 2,865 acres of land which was only 20 acres five years ago. He has immovable wealth worth Tk only 36 lakh now it has swollen to Tk 5 crore. – Staff Reporter
