Access and equity to quality education to all stressed

Access and equity to education to all, particularly the children coming from the poor and distressed communities, has become an urgent need for overall development of the nation, speakers at a discussion said here yesterday.
They viewed side by side with the government initiatives various other richer-class people and financial institutions should come forward towards providing education to the underprivileged dropout children.They were addressing the discussion prior to giving prize among 30 poor but meritorious students who got brilliant results in different examinations in 2014.Ladies Organization for Social Welfare (LOFS) organized the ceremony at its office in Rajshahi city in association with Children Education and Awareness Programme and Bangladesh NGO Foundation.With Shahnaz Parveen Luckey, Executive Director of LOFS, in the chair, Zonal Head of First Security Islami Bank Ltd, Probation Officer of Social Service Department Abdullah Al Firoj, LOFS Programme Manager Md Salah Uddin, Programme Officers Champa Khatun, Sabina Yeasmin and Sumati Sarker spoke on the occasion.The discussants said students’ dropouts from primary and secondary schools couldn’t be prevented without collective efforts of all concerned especially teachers, guardians and community people.They urged upon the prize-recipient students to put in their level best efforts to become worthy citizens through attaining proper education. -BSS, Rajshahi
