Accidents claim yet another 12 human lives injure 15 others

At least another 12 people were killed and 15 others injured in several road and railway accidents in five districts on Saturday. The districts are Gopalganj, Manikganj, Gazipur, Laxmipur and Kishoreganj.
In Gopalganj, seven people, including three women, were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus at Bhatiapara intersection on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kashiani upazila in the morning. Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Mizan, inspector (investigation) of Kashiani Police Station, said a Gopalganj-bound bus f ‘Ashique-Sagar Paribahan’ hit a Mawa-bound microbus coming from the opposite direction around 11 am, leaving a passenger of the microbus dead on the spot and 10 others injured.The injured were rushed to a local hospital and Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Six of them died on way to hospital.
All the victims were microbus passengers, hailing from Narail district, said the inspector.
In Manikganj, two people were killed and eight others injured as a bus crashed into a human hauler at Baira in Singair upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Sujon Miah, 30, a resident of Sanail village, and Meher Ali, 50, a resident of Kashemnagar village of the upazila.
Syeduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Singair Police Station, said a speeding bus hit a Manikganj bound human-hauler around 10am, leaving 10 people injured.
The injured were admitted to Manikganj Sadar Hospital. Among them, four were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Meher Ali died on the way to DMCH while Sujon Miah succumbed to his injures after he was taken to the hospital.
In Gazipur, a woman died and two others injured after falling from the rooftop of a train at Talaboh in Kaliakoir upazila on Saturday noon.
The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Witnesses said the trio was traveling on the rooftop of the Dhaka-bound ‘Rangpur Express’.
They fell from the rooftop after being hit by a tree when the train reached the area, leaving the woman dead on the spot.
The two injured were admitted to Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex.
Meanwhile, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed as his three-wheeler overturned at Palerhat Bazar on Laxmipur-Mirganj road in Sadar upazila of Laxmipur district on early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Abul Hashem, 30, son of Late Renu Miah, a resident of Banchanagar village in the upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Laxmipur Sadar Police Station M Gias Uddin Miah said Abul was injured as his auto-rickshaw turned turtle in the area in the early hours on Saturday.
Later, he was whisked off to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon.
In Kishoreganj, motorcyclist Al-Amin, 26, son of Abdul High, a resident of Dohor village in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh district was killed as a bus rammed his motor bike at Kamaliarchar in Sadar upazila in the afternoon.
Witnesses said the Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Shah Sultan Paribahan’ crashed into his motor cycle around 5pm, leaving him dead on the spot and a pedestrian injured.
Officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj Model Police Station Anisur Rahman confirmed the incident. -UNB
