Greens want integrated steps to rid Dhaka of water logging

Green activists at a programme Dhaka on Saturday demanded an integrated step to remove the perennial waterlogging problem from Dhaka city.
They said the city dwellers suffer from acute waterlogging in the capital in every monsoon since the authorities give attention to only addressing the problem in posh areas like Gulshan and Banani, but do not take any planned measure to remove waterlogging from all areas of the city.  Poribesh Bachao Andolon (Poba), Nagarik Odhikar Sangrakhyan Forum (NOSF) and Poribesh Unnayan Society jointly organised the human chain programme in front of Nagar Bhaban aiming to put pressure on the authorities concerned to take an integrated initiative to address waterlogging problem in Dhaka city.
Addressing the programme, Poba chairman Abu Naser Khan said when monsoon sets in, the Dhaka City Corporations and Dhaka Wasa, as service-providing institutions, take some scattered measures to address the waterlogging problem.
“But, they have no coordinated effort to address the problem. Waterlogging problem is a common problem for all areas of Dhaka city. So, an integrated measure must be taken to solve the problem considering all the areas of the city,” he added.
NOSF president Hafizur Rahman, Poba executive member Engr Tofail Ahmed, Poba coordinator Atiq Morshed, Poribesh Unnayan Society president Burhan Uddin and Modern Club president Abul Hasnat, among others, spoke at the programme.- UNB
