Accurate economic census must: FBCCI

Speakers at an economic discussion here on Saturday said it would be difficult to take the right decision for the country and its economy without accurate economic data.They said most businesspeople do not feel free to provide authentic data fearing tax imposition and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) is also unable to preserve and provide correct data.

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) arranged the discussion, titled ‘Economic Census is Essential for Development of Trade and Commerce’, held at the FBCCI conference room.

Planning Ministry Secretary (Statistics and Data Management) M Najibur Rahman, BBS Deputy Director General Mizanur Rahman, FBCCI first vice President Monwara Hakim Ali, vice president M Helal Uddin, Bangladesh association of International Recruiting Agencies (Baira) President Shahjalal Majumdar, Bangladesh Merchant Bankers association President Mohammad A Hafiz took part in the discussion held with FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed in the chair.

Project Director of the Statistics Bureau Dildar Hossain presented the keynote paper at the discussion.

The FBCCI President said the country needs accurate economic census urgently for the economic development of the country and economic census should be aimed at cooperating businesspeople. (Source: UNB)
