Actor Anwar Hossain passes away

Dhaka – Anwar Hossain, who is popularly known as ‘Crownless Emperor’ of Bangla filmdom, died at a city hospital early Friday. He was 82.The veteran actor who was admitted to city’s Square Hospital on August 18 with various old age complications breathed his last around 2:30 am.
Anwar Hossain was born in Jamalpur on December 6, 1931.
He left behind his wife, four sons, one daughter and a host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the ailing actor in the hospital on Thursday and also gave a cheque of Tk 10 lakh to his family members.
Hossain made his debut in Tomar Amar in 1961 and two years later played the role of the hero in Salauddin’s Surja Snyan.
His performance in Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula (1967) placed him permanently in the heart of millions of movie lovers.
In his long acting career of over four decades, the seasoned actor appeared in many challenging roles in about 500 movies.
Anwar Hossain was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.
The numerous films he acted in include Bishkanya, Shaheed Titumir, Binimoy, Jiban Theke Niya, Nijere Haraye Khuji, Golapi Ekhon Dhakai, Lutera, Shimar, Bhat De, Pension, Talachabi, Matir Koley, Tufan Mail and Marjada. – UNB
